The key is to take the advice into consideration and then rationalise and form your own judgement. In the case of business and starting out then under a formal mentoring program the advice given is from experience and can help avoid many of the pitfalls along the way, so should carry more weight. I think planning and focusing on what you want is key as you can then take the steps and advice to get there without getting sidetracked.
