Newbie – How To Generate Traffic?

By Steve. On August 6, 2009 Under The Nitty Gritty

Ask for advice when stuck!!

Never be too proud to ask for advice from somebody who's been at this game for longer than yourself.

I've had a good day today, I've taken some advice from a guy who was one of Alex's students from the first course that he did. His name is Mark Terrell. I've started to get to know Mark really by e-mail and other comments he has been leaving on my blog, which I have to say at this point are much appreciated, just the same as everybody else's comments that have been left. When you're in my position a complete newbie at this game when you start to get comments on your blog it means a lot and it doesn't really matter whether they're negative or not because what you really need to know is, am I doing it right is it going to work and what do the visitors think of it.

Looking at my Google analytics statistics it was clear I had to try and get advice how to get traffic to my blog. Having signed up for auto tweeting, Mark very kindly gave me some assistance to get auto tweeting setup correctly. Having done this we started to talk about traffic and blogs in general; the advice Mark gave me was this: Go through everybody on the student's blog list and leave a comment of some description on each of the blogs. He told me, even if you know nothing about the subject on the post leave a comment introducing yourself and saying that you were going round all the member's blog and saying hi and leaving a comment as and where possible. This in turn will get people to visit your blog and leave comments this is really what we are after. This will provoke traffic between all the member's blogs.

The next step is to find a list of the top blogs in Internet marketing niche, have a look at each one of them in turn and leave a comment on each one, obviously with your name and blog address left with a comment. By doing all this you will get your name around the Internet, yes it will take time but at this stage this does not matter. We are not in a get rich quick scheme-we are getting rich for ever!!

I know some of us are further ahead of the others on this course I guess there are other people in the same position as myself so I hope this post will help you generate a little traffic to your blogs as well.
Thanks mark for your time, Hope your dinner was not too cold!!

All the best catch you next time.

Regards Steve.

Hi Steve,

I am glad you have taken my advice, it was a pleasure to help out a fellow student.

We all start at the beginning and as i said i am only 10 months ahead of you but know exactly what it is like and what you are going through.

I wanted instant results and instant money…… unfortunately 95% of all internet marketers fail !! Mainly because they just give up….

Here are some more things you need to do to build traffic after posting on all the blogs i suggested.

Ping your site every time you add a new post (ping-o-matic)
Post regularity, say twice a week on your blog
Article Marketing
Forum Marketing
Givaways sites
Squidoo Lens
Videos posted to youtube
Submit your blog to blog directories
Submit your site to Goggle Reader
Submit your site to DMOZ
Submit your blog to blog Directories
Post a tweet message on Twitter once a day telling everyone what you are doing on your blog.

There’s lots of other ways, but i guarantee if you go through the list one by one within 4 weeks you should see some massive results.

Post what you are doing every couple of days and put a screenshot of your traffic once a week, we would all love to see how it is working for you.

Hi Steve,

I feel your pain, my google analytics stats aren’t much better than yours, I’ve been very busy lately but I’m on track again now. I think I will do something like Mark has suggested above, although since Module #5, I’ve got plenty up my sleeve. :)

You seem to be off to a great start here though, keep it up. ;)

Paul.

Hello Steve,

I like your blog set-up, I still need to add an opt-in and start with videos. I am still finding my writing method or skills. Thanks for checking out my blog.

Hi Steve,

I think building traffic will take a month of dedicated blogging and writing updates as Alex said in his course, but it will be worth it as we’re trying to build a long term business.

I just came back from holiday and my Analytics dropped from 10 per day to nil.

But I’m goint to stay positive and use it as a case study which proves that if you don’t blog and update other peoples sites with helpful information you don’t get results.

I’ll follow the tips given by Mark Terrell in the post above and hopefully will be able to share some positive traffic news with fellow students.

Let me know which tactics work best for you and we can share thios info in Tweets, Articles and Blogs.

Looking forward to helping you.
